It has been one week.
It started on the best of days…Canada Day!
And then it got better.
And the moving in began. Art, tables, some chairs, a little desk for a little office, technology, art supplies, pottery wheels, some previously enjoyed patio furniture (yes we have a patio), some musical instruments…
Thanks have to go to the many many many people who have given of time or materials to make the space come alive. The guys who moved the piano in, the guy who stored the chairs in his garage for a year, the Legion for storing the sound equipment for a long time, Ann for believing and doing, David for moving so much stuff and dreaming big, Marianne for staying the course, all of the landlords who have helped with space for storing things for years, the Chamber for the little desk, Sundog Tours for always saying yes, the Grocery People for our first weekly program, the Chaba Theatre for the repurposed desktops, Karouzos for feeding us great food while moving into the wee hours, Robinsons IGA for the donation to our Grand Opening that we can finally use, the Fitzhugh for writing stories that let people know whats going on, Mike and Cynthia for storing stuff for years, the Museum and Seniors Lounge and Activity Centre and Churches for being home to programs when we were homeless, the Muni for inviting us into this space…
There has been a prevailing theme for over 10 years now for the programs that IOTAD brings to life…that of dreaming. In 2005 we were given the appellation of dreamers and doers. IOTAD is an acronym for It Only Takes A Dream.
We wont say that some dreams cant be nightmares…this amazing space has caused some sleepless nights…but like most bad dreams…we will forget them!
It has been one week…with a visiting youth choir that echoed throughout the building. Followed by a shared ART FOR LUNCH Ukrainian youth dance troupe…we cant help thinking…if you build it…
